Saisons de Vins Syrah l'Hiver

Price: 19.99

Winemaker Wells Guthrie (also of Copafn Wines) uses French wines as models, since they are wines of place, varietal character, and value while enhancing the foods they accompany. Wells makes one wine per season under this label. Wells sources fruit from two vineyards ù Madder Lake in Lake County and Vecino Vineyard in Potter Valley ù and combines it with a few de-classified barrels from the Copafn Syrah program. Like WellsÆ other wines, it is deep, intense, and Northern Rhone-like with smoky, earthy, black raspberry fruit and hints of coffee and licorice. 90 Points from Parker!

Seresin Pinot Noir

Price: 32.99

Good full red. Black fruits, violet and licorice on the nose. Sappy and spicy but also nicely supple; currently a bit closed in on itself but ultimately shows a bit more texture than the 2002. But this wine is locked up tight today and dominated by its structure.

Seresin Sauvignon Blanc

Price: 17.99

Indigenous yeasts and a selection of cultured yeasts were utilised for fermentation, for added complexity and texture. A small percentage of the blend was fermented in older French barriques to add depth, which when combined with regular batonnage, contributes a yeasty creaminess to fill the mid-palate. The indigenous yeast, barrel-fermentation, and extended lees contact are all used to contribute complexity, texture, and integration to this wine.

A great value in Pinot.

Stafford Hill Riesling

Stafford Hill is a bit of an insider's deal among Oregon wines. The second label for the much pricier, and sought after, Holloran Vineyards. That label is gaining a strong following, and its wines sell out quickly. The Riesling is pure, dense, beautifully balanced dry riesling that will pair superbly with just about any fish dish you care to concoct, as well as a partner to various cheeses. Completely dry (nonsweet) this is yet another example of why dry riesling is, in this taster's opinion, Oregon's best white wine.
